Setting up “Shoppe” and a ROAD TRIP!

Hello all – hope you’re all surviving the winter…it’s a bit snowy here today (it changes daily…in snO-HIO! And, what have I been up to???? Always something, right???

Well, the hustle and bustle of our daughter’s wedding is over – and they’re living their “happily ever after”! My friend Susan and I have moved our salvaged and vintage re-creations into a shoppe in Lexington, Ohio – Shoppe 27 is located at 27 E. Main St. in downtown Lexington. We’ve set up “shoppe” in the front foyer – you can’t miss us! They are open Wednesday-Saturday – 11am-5pm (and by appointment). We’re so excited to be here. There are vendors in every room of this historical building, with a nice variety of antiques, art and whimsy! Here are some pics…

We piled everything in and set up in a few hours – we didn’t think we’d have room for everything…but “voila” – junk magic!

We’re “inspired” by rusty and broken things…and making them useful or functional (or just plain pretty)…again!

Not trying to be bossy, but the sign says it all! The board is half of an old armoire door (see the wonderful detail across the top?), and the drawer came from the sewing machine in the earlier pic (5 more drawers to repurpose!!).

Susan stitched some sweet little lavender sachets – and they smell heavenly!

This cabinet has it all…a wonderful old window, a shelf on top for display, and storage below…anyone interested??? (sorry, it’s too big to ship)

Susan creates the cutest gift tags – fabric flowers and lace – and, if you use a pencil to write with – someone else can use it again to “re-gift”!

And, down below – a little bit of “this and that” – and some beautiful antique curtains (SOLD)!

And, my ice skates (with fur, lace and bling…) – SOLD!

A shelf I made from an old drawer (the pull is at the bottom) – I added a piece of wood for more display space, and a decorative piece at the bottom AND a couple crystals to the wire holder - to dress it up!

Also, during the antique show…there’s a new “show within the show” – The Vintage Marketplace - http://www.vintagemarketplacetennessee.blogspot.com/ and it promises to be truly unique – lots of talented artists/vendors from all over the country, who will be sharing their wares.

We’ll be getting to the area on Thursday afternoon and plan to find a few junking/antiquing spots to entertain us. And, to top it all off, Sue Whitney of JUNKMARKET Style will be there with her entourage – and it’s gonna be a junkin’ good time. She’s a blast to hang with – sharing her love of all things junk…style, function and fun!

I’m really looking forward to meeting the vendors and bloggers – and some members of a little facebook group I’m a part of…the Southern Junkers (you can find them on facebook - southernjunkers@groups.facebook.com). And, of course making some new friends – that’s what it’s all about – sharing our love of junk and the next new thing we can figure out to do with it!!!

We’re ready to hit the road…like Willie Nelson…we’ll be “on the road again” – and I think I hear a little John Denver playing too “take me home country roads”!!!

Well…time to do the thing I love the most…pack! Actually, I’ve done really well this time (I think so anyway), and have only one outfit for each day – I’m notorious for overpacking (and needing “options”), but if anyone happens to need an extra pair of socks, or whatever – they usually know who to ask!!!

What could be better than a wedding in December??

Well hello friends!

I hope that all is well in your world, and that you’re enjoying the holiday season. Things tend to get crazy busy…remember to sit back and breathe for a minute, and remember the reason for the season – and cherish each moment spent with family and friends – it’s a precious thing, and a blessing from God.

This has been an exceptionally busy last few months…Terri and I had three shows, AND I’ve been (with a “little” help from my friends – Terri, Carol, Susan, Tela, and Robin) making our daughter Kristen’s bouquets, garters, signs, decorations, etc. for her December 10th wedding. It was a labor of love from start to finish, and it all turned out so beautifully!! I’ll share some pics now, but I’m planning on doing a post on the things we made and how it all came together. My daughter and I had some ideas of our own (surprise, surprise…), and then once we discovered “Pinterest”…it was all over but the “pinning”!! She was sending me emails almost daily with ideas, ideas, ideas…(love her little heart!!) And, she’d say, “Mom, we could make this or we could do that…” – and you know who did most of the making…(but, that’s ok – it was going to be the most perfect wedding ever no matter what…glue gun burns, etc…you know what I mean!!). So, we eventually had to draw a line and make decisions – and we DID! :) The wedding was held in Key West on the beach…palm trees, sand, sunshine – and a few decorations – and it was picture perfect! The bride and groom…well, they were just sweet happiness and love running over – and, yes, I was the typical mother-of-the-bride…kleenex in hand! She’s our one and only, and now we’ve got a son too! And…his wonderful family, well what can I say…we just love ‘em!!!

Here are cuff bracelets I made for myself and Terry (I put a little piece of Kristen’s dress on each one – taken from a sample of the fabric – not from her dress! ha ha!).

Now, rewind to the rehearsal…sorry, kind of jumping around!

The girls go through their goodie bags – stenciled with their names (and…if you notice on the left, Ellen’s dress just happened to match the bags – too cute!), and filled with some fun surprises – a vintage purse, jewelry…and more! Oops…did I mention some cute Christmas socks??

Kristen wore my (very 70s) peasant-style wedding dress for rehearsal…she looked adorable!

Placemats were scanned from an antique atlas – Ohio (for the bride), New Jersey (for the groom), and Florida (for their present home and the wedding). We made burlap holders for the silverware and topped them off with a little raggedy rolled rose. A few sprinkles of “fake” snowflakes (and seashells and buttons) were scattered about too!

The chairs all set up and ready to go…and the threat of some rain passed us by…(prayers answered!)

The tables were set except for the flowers – had to add them later because they wanted to blow away!

Tom and Kristen are truly a match made in heaven and are soooo happy together – anybody who knows them, can see it! We wish Tom and Kristen the most wonderful blessings in life! (And…did I mention grandchildren for us??? wink, wink…) We love you both so very much, and are so proud of you too!

And then the morning after…nothing left on the beach except for the dance floor (I think the girls danced it right into the sand!!)

And last, but not least…how about a big ol’ island “Merry Christmas” from Key West???

Like the title says…there’s nothing better than a wedding in December…

Tis the season…for “busy”ness!!

Yikes, it’s December already! And just like everybody out there…it seems like the year really has flown by – for me…with everyday life, shows (which means project after project after project – but that’s the fun!), wedding preparations (our daughter, Kristen is getting married this month and we’ve made the bouquets, and lots of other beautiful things – which I’ll share after the BIG day!), and now our last two shows of the year (and it’s two in one weekend!! A little crazy…but doable!? Gotta love it/me, right Terri???)

Here’s the lowdown…

Friday, December 2nd – from 5:00-8:00pm – We will be at Studio 19 Hair Salon’s Customer Appreciation Event (19 E. Fourth St., Mansfield). We will be selling our vintage redesigned/restyled jewelry – lots of “new” things to see! The salon will also have 30% off their retail products, and then from 6-8pm they will be serving cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Friday night is also Downtown Mansfield’s Shop Hop with a holiday theme – stores are open later, there will be carriage rides, Santa, music and more… So, it should be a fun night!

AND then..

Saturday, December 3rd – from 8:30am – 4:00pm – We will be at the Ontario Community Craft Show (at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield). We are in the Arts and Crafts Building (spaces 48 & 49). We will have our jewelry, as well as a LOAD of fabulous upcycled vintage holiday décor and gifty things!! This is our second year at this show – it’s their 35th annual show, and we’re happy to be a part of it!

Here’s a peek at what’s been going on in Santa’s workshop…I mean my basement…(the pics aren’t the best, but you get the idea…). I made so much more even after these pics were taken and packed it all up last night before thinking about taking more… I made old wooden signs from some architectural pieces, and painted a little cabinet (and I’ll probably even put together a few more things tonite…it never ends, does it??) And, Terri has been as busy as a bee too – but I don’t pics of her things to share – but I know they will be loaded with a ton of creative holiday vintage loveliness!!!

I “girled” up a pair of old ice skates with some fur from a coat collar, lace, keys, buttons and bells! (two more pair are in the works)

Doilies aren’t usually something I work with (even though I have a bunch…), but I wanted to do something with this beautiful old frame – all hand stitched – he’s one of my favorites!

Rag trees from an old quilt, toile and a chenille bedspread – and of course lots of bling & even black velvet buttons! My snow “lady” is wearing her blingy best!

This little cutie was just dripping (and filled with) pearls…so I’d like to introduce to you “Miss Minnie Pearl”!

My favorite couple…a cruet set…who knew?? I’m sure it was love at first sight!

Some old porch posts and pinecones – these would look fabulous on a mantel!

Pinecones – glittered too (nothing’s safe!) (And of course this time year…no room is safe from the remnants of a glittered project!)

This “crown” of bits and pieces of dried branches, etc…painted white and snow glittered – it could be a centerpiece or a tree topper, or… I put a “candleholder” made from a mason jar, glued atop a clear thrift store bud vase (for some height), and sprayed with a little sparkly snow. I’m using a battery-operated tealight inside for the show to help set the holiday mood!

Gallery Hop AND a Trunk Show!!!

It’s getting to be that time of year…the rush is on – oh heck, who am I kidding??? I feel like the whole year has been that way – but better busy than bored, right (I know there are a lot of us out there…it’s what we do)?? So, having said that – I’m once again a little behind in my blogging. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to get back on the blogging track…I miss visiting all of your wonderful, inspiring blogs, and hearing from my fellow junkers!

On Saturday, November 5th, Terri and I did our very first trunk show in Columbus, at a great little store called…

Old World New Home is located at 941 N. High Street, in the Short North in Columbus, Ohio. (click on the pic above to go to their blog)

Carlene Crist (co-owner with her daughter, Betsy) was our hostess for the evening. It was a busy night – with a constant stream of people up until 11:00 pm… We met some new customers, and made a few new friends!

It’s a fabulous store, with so much charm and wonderful vintage décor everywhere! The photos tell it all…so I won’t (ha ha…)!

Going “rural”, and a trunk show!!

Happy November!!

On Friday, October 14th, my girlfriends and I (see pic below…and, no, this is not what we drove) took a little drive (aka an “adventure”) to Mt. Vernon, Ohio - actually it was down a windy country road…which turned into a windy country dirt road to a sweet little valley of vintage/antique wonderfulness…better known as The Warwick Farm, and this was their semi-annual Rural Society Antique & Garden Show.

Ericka, Ellen, Susan & Terri (I’m the “tall” blonde in the back)!

It was our first time, and we were SUPER excited to get there, which made the drive seem even longer of course (it was really only about 40 minutes – ha ha!!)!! It was a chilly morning, and it had rained the day before…but that wasn’t going to stop us! Terri assured us that she knew the way…we’re such trusting girls!!!

Springfield…a shower…and more great junk!

Hello and happy October – the trees are changing and it’s a beautiful time of year! Our pool is closed (darn), the humming birds have deserted me for a warmer climate (they’re such smart little birdies…I just hate saying good-bye), AND we’re getting ready for a wedding in December!

I’ve been wanting to share pics from Springfield Extravaganza…but, the time is getting away from me… We recently had my daughter’s bridal shower, and it was fabulous!! (So am sharing a few pics from that too!). And, now I’m playing catch up on my blog!!

Here we go (I’ll just provide a “little” commentary)!

Just in case we got confused about the date – the vintage “virtual” calendar reminded us – it’s time for EXTRAVAGANZA at Springfield!

I remember my Grandpa (I called him Gramps), had one of these fun little bartenders…Charlie Weaver. He’d pour the drink and raise it up to his mouth, and then smoke would come out of his ears!!! Back in the 60s…that was amazing!

Under the big tent, we found some interesting characters. Wouldn’t you agree??

It was a wonderful show. We just love the Extravaganzas…sold lots of stuff, made new friends (too much fun!), and found a few goodies for ourselves (always)!

Now, on to the bridal shower. It was a blast having Kristen & Tom, Tom’s Mom – Terry, and sister – Kim…AND the girls!!! Rachel, Ellen, Katelin and Kristen!! It was a busy three days, but loaded with fun and lots of love for our sweet bride-to-be! We had a great turn out of family and friends (even my Mom…so happy she could make it!!).

And, we thought it’d be fun to toss our tp…I mean bouquets!

The girls had a game where Tom had answered questions prior to the shower, and Kristen had to guess how he would answer them – And, his answers were perfect…so thoughtful and pretty funny!!

That’s just a glimpse (you know there were probably a couple hundred more pics…). We’re just so happy for our little Kristen (she’ll always be our little girl), and are so excited for the wedding (in less than two months she’ll be Mrs. Thomas Hewitt Jr.).

And he brought roses…again…perfect! (We’re gonna keep him!!)

And, I can’t forget to mention all the help I got from my girlfriends (making things, set up, food, etc…..) – you all made it perfect (and helped keep me sane – if that’s possible?!)!!! I feel so blessed to have the friendship and support of such awesome women!

And guess what????? WE GET TO DO A TRUNK SHOW!!! (our first!!)

I wanted to share where Terri and I will be on November 5th (and, we’re just a little excited about it…oh…and it’s my birthday). We’ve been asked to do a trunk show (thank you so much Carlene & Betsy!) at a wonderful store in the Short North area of Columbus during the monthly Gallery Hop. We’ll be taking our redesigned (and junk) jewelry on the road, and are SOOOOO darned excited (did I already say that??). Anyway…here are the details:

When: November 5th – 5:00pm – 10:00pm

All the stores are open late, there are fabulous restaurants, entertainment and loads of FUN!!

A party in a garden…what’s not to love?

Hello all, hoping your day is as bright and beautiful as it is here in Ohio today – a wonderful summer day (for today anyway)… So, I know you’ll love the pictures I have from my friend Ellen’s recent garden party at her beautiful home in Columbus…it' was an “oh so summery night”!

It was a very warm summer evening (about 90 degrees, but we can handle it!!), and four of us drove to Columbus (Terri, Susan, Tori and I) with our jaunty vintage hats (one of the requirements to attend…), and some scrumptious snacks - I made a peanut butter cheese ball…I know – peanut butter AND cheese ball in the same title – it’s gotta be stinkin’ delish – like a giant buckeye!! And, of course, I found it on my newest favoritist (is that a word??) site…you guessed it – (PINTEREST)!

Oh my gosh, what a place – you can get lost for hours…maybe days…looking at everything from recipes, to unbelievable project ideas, sewing tutorials, clothing, jewelry, wedding ideas (my daughter is getting married in December, and PINTEREST has done nothing but flooded me with fabulous ideas…now to pick and choose! ha ha!!)… And, there’s so much more – if it’s something you’re interested in…it can be found on PINTEREST (when do I get my marketing job???)!

Anyway, back to the cheese ball – here’s the link (just in case you’re tempted)

One of our first stops in her backyard (aka garden sanctuary)…was her new “old” pergola – secret garden sitting area. It was just built by a friend of ours, Debby Martinez of Treasure & Tea in Mansfield..it’s simply divine!! It was constructed of pieces and parts of reclaimed architectural awesomeness…and it already looks like it’s been there for ages!.

A little water feature tucked into a corner…so relaxing!

Pickin’ and Grinnin’–Texas Style

I just visited a blogging friend’s site and had to share her southern style wit and junkin’ inspiration with my little bit of the blogging world. Her name is Deb, and she’s got a way of making a point, or telling a story, that’ll have you in stitches…really! I haven’t had enough time to do much roaming around the blogging world lately, but this is one stop that I try to make every now and again – Deb just has a way with words – a gift – really and truly, cross my heart and hope to junk!

I don’t know if you’re a fan of “American Pickers” or “Picker Sisters”, but there’s this husband and wife team (aka Deb and Cat Daddy) in Texas who are ready to make quite a stir in the world of pickin’ (actually, they already are, but if they hit Hollywood…y’all better watch out!). These two put the “real” in reality, and the “junk” in the trunk – so what’s not to love!!?!

Here’s the link - her blog is called Talking Trash…and she does!! I know you’ll enjoy the read (and want to become a follower), and you’ll absolutely want to know when the first episode will “air” – I do believe she’s ready for her “close up”!!

Dear fellow junkers (I know you’re out there!!),

My girlfriends and I took our annual girls’ trip the first weekend of August…traveling the highway (Rt. 127) and “buyway” (Rt. 30) on our quest for junk…! It’s just way too convenient that the Rt. 30 Lincoln Highway BuyWay starts at the exact time that the World’s Longest Yard Sale (Rt. 127) does. So, we left on Thursday morning (the 4th) at about 8:30 a.m., and headed west on Rt. 30 – out of Mansfield, with our first stop just a few minutes up the road…to our first yard sale.

One of our first purchases was only 10 miles away, and it was one that we had to leave behind to be picked up later – a beautiful mirrored vanity and stool – so much for our intentions of not buying big furniture! (I should have taken a picture of it, but I’ll be sure to get one after we paint it “white”!)

It took us most of the day (lots of stopping and starting…and a little backtracking) to get to the start of our trip south on Rt. 127 (just about 120 miles away, in Van Wert, Ohio).

And, after that…it was just yard sale craziness (and I mean that in a good way). We had already made our shopping plan. Each of us had a plastic bin for smalls, and we really weren’t really looking for anything big (well…there was that vanity, but that didn’t count). We all found goodies along the way – jewelry, watches, project “stuff”, metal “junk”, a couple small cabinets, some birdcages (we’ll have a collection at the Springfield Extravaganza…), etc…….

So, without further adieu…here’ our trip…chronicled in just a “few” pictures…(you know me)…

As usual, for August – it was a hot one!!! Some vintage fans…great to look at, but not much relief from the heat!

Farm “junk” – there were flatbed trailers from Van Wert into Kentucky – piled high…

Not sure what this could be repurposed as…but very interesting…

Would you buy a skull? It might make a good pencil holder…I guess!?! (Terri was a little shocked – or was it all show for the camera???)

Some sweet old dolls – waiting for their new home-sweet-home…

A little “farm” repurposing – these old cans were cut open and re-used for storage.

And, the famous “Cool Crap” sign – and they really did have some…

They wouldn’t fit in the van…so had to pass them by…darn it!

All the King’s men…I just thought these guys were pretty cool (a homemade chess set)

Wouldn’t this old ferris wheel seat make an awesome swing in a big ‘ol tree??

If there’s a parking lot…there’s a “market”…it never ends…

We saw some of the most beautiful homes in Celina (and found some goodies too!

Where’s Laverne and Shirley when you need them?? I was so tempted to make this a “Kodak” moment, and then didn’t remember till later – darn!

Vintage clothes galore!! So, we DID have our “Kodak” moment! (and, no…we weren’t sweating…just a little “glisten”!) August in Ohio…..

“Some Day” – we’ll quit junking…yeah, right!!

This sign wasn’t for sale…they actually had Stanley Products for sale, and the lady has been selling them for years. My Grandma used to sell them, and I remember going to the home parties with her and helping set up…a nice memory!

How sweet – this was in one of the backyards in Celina – such a junkily restful spot, don’t ya think?

And this was out front – fabulous!!

We saw everything AND the kitchen sink!

And, who didn’t have a troll doll when they were growing up??

This place was overflowing with some interesting junk…unfortunately for us, it was the end of the day, and they had already closed…

Ann & Andy found the perfect spot to park their stuffed behinds!

Some vendors even provided “air conditioning” - every little bit helped A LOT!

Again…wouldn’t fit in the van…

We probably could have filled these and tied them to the roof…or not!

It’s always a “GOOD YEAR” when you get to junk all summer!!

This great old can reminded me of Jim at JUNKMARKET Style – he’d make a fabulous floor lamp out of it…

I was able to find a few watches…at these booth, however – the prices were a little high for me, but what a fun “time” I had looking at them!

And, who knew you’d find a vintage appliance store along the road?? The purple/white fridge was way cool!

Weighing in on our junking experience…well, I just gotta say – the girls had a great time!!

And, even though we didn’t completely fill the van (are we disciplined or what???), we still got…

And, here are a few of my “finds”:

A sweet little cabinet – just waiting to be “shabbied” up (white paint, etc…)!

I know, I’m not a fisherman, but this little folding stool will find some kinda use in my house!

This fabric is SOOO fun – I can’t wait to put it to use…

And, I found just a few vases for my button bokays (and I think I’ll even paint a few of them)…or maybe a few want to become snowmen??? Hmmmmm…

Jewelry and junk…junk and jewelry – it’s all good!!

These three little “frozen Charlotte” dolls were bought for the bargain price of $5.00 (for ALL three)…I almost jumped up and down, but you know we have to contain ourselves at these moments!

I’m sure no one really uses these pencil sharpeners anymore, but a pink one…oh yeah…it’s going right on my “pink” workbench! I think it’s my favorite find – such simple pleasures!!

A travel “must-have”…the makeup case (well, mine will probably be a tool box)!

Well, this is most of it……(and it almost fit in my plastic bin…almost)!

And, did I mention that I just LOVE these little girls??? They are too sweet for words!!

And, they’re ready for their closeup!!

That’s it for now – I’ve “pictured” you to tears I’m sure – but I think it was all GREAT junk! Me and the girls had fun every mile, and are looking forward to our trip next year…who knows where we’ll go??? But, really, I wish I could take a bus full of my friends! (Oh, and pull a trailer!!) Hmmmmmmmmmmm….

The FABULOUS Summer Market

Well, I don’t know where to start…what can you say about one of the most FABULOUS markets ever??? Well, FABULOUS starts it off right, and it only gets better from there!! And just for reference…

FAB-U-LOUS…almost impossible to believe; incredible; exceptionally good or unusual; marvelous; superb (you get the idea, right???)

First, I’d like to thank Erin Stack and Kristen Weeden (of The Summer Market) for a FABULOUS show – so very organized and well run (and tons of fun too)! So nice to meet you both (and your crew). Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of The Summer Market – we’re looking forward to next year!

We drove to Avon Lake last Friday morning, with our trailer filled/packed/over the weight limit (I’m sure…), and the radar showing us a thunderstorm hitting The Summer Market at about 3:00 pm… Well, I just gotta say that ALL week we had been watching the weather forecast, and praying ALL week that the weather would be perfectly clear…and I’m here to tell ya, that it worked the clouds overhead held back for set up of all the vendors (about 55 of us); we had a fabulous sunset…(doesn’t it look like a postcard??)

The show started at 5:00 pm, and we got ready “just in time”. It really doesn’t matter how much time we’re given to set up…we use every minute.

Here are some pics of our space before the throngs arrived (and I mean throngs…the show was crazy busy till 9:00).

I thought I’d turn these upside down (a little trick I learned from my friend, Sue Whitney, of JUNKMARKET Style – if you’re not sure what to do with something – just turn it around a few different ways, it’ll eventually become something wonderful!) So, these could be votive holders, or little bud vases…

Jewelry…we had lots! Vintage AND redesigned…

Something new…BigGirl Jewelry (vintage baubles and beads for little girls – but the big girls liked them too) – and some redesigned pieces coming this fall to the Springfield Extravaganza…stop by and see!

OK, you’re right…these are my market bags, but for the lake “beach” bag seemed so much more appropriate!

We filled every nook and cranny…

(some people came back two or three times to see it all!!)

On Saturday, the skies were the most FABULOUS shade of blue, and the waters sparkled below like diamonds…(and we had the most wonderful breeze all day). I could easily stay here for a long, long time – and a cottage on a lake has always been my dream…

Again, the crowds came and shopped, ate, laughed and shopped some more!! Music filled the air most of the day, and again, FABULOUS is the only way I can describe it all!

And, Shannon Vance, of Stash Style – FABULOUS is the perfect description for her vintage, funky style – and she has a new clothing line. When she becomes famous…I’ll be happy to say “I knew her when…” The designs are unique and fun. She’ll be at the Country Living Fair with lots of new pieces!

You can’t have a market without some fresh produce – Pickering Farms.

MARKET DAY RE-CAP…

Our Vintage Market Day is over for this year, and we’re looking ahead to next year (you know, always thinking of ways to do things better).

It was a beautiful summer day in a wonderful Victorian home, and we were busy all day long (upstairs and downstairs)! The girls in check-out were busy as bees! Our vendors (and volunteers) were fabulous! Setting up was a high-impact aerobic workout for sure (upstairs/downstairs)…not to mention tear down at the end of the show. (I didn’t get pics of everyone…darn it…but you’ll get the idea!)

You won’t miss it – we’ll have signs here and there – and, balloons to mark the spot!!! There is lots of parking (just down the alley) behind the house (in the parking lot of Rex Gilbert Auto Electric)…

We’re so excited – we’ve been collecting (aka temporarily hoarding) lots of great vintage things to sell (our storage unit runneth over!!). Terri and I will have our redesigned vintage jewelry, some trash-to-treasure designs for your home and garden, furniture and more. We’ll also have some “junk” outside as well (you know…the things that you buy and say, “I’ll figure out something to do with that”…it’s that kind of stuff) – with some bargain prices. AND on top of that…I’m doing some “housecleaning” myself, and will be parting with some treasures (i.e., a collection of vintage jewelry), furniture, etc. - as well as some “junk” from my basement – for you to turn into something fabulous!

Signs, signs, everywhere signs – harvested from an old garden chair – the pieces and parts of the seat were screaming to be reused!

And see what I made from an old Hoosier pull-out??? Message central – to get you organized, or just for fun! (the “junk” chalk tray is also a piece of the harvested garden chair – with a perfect “ledge” for chalk to rest…)

Some metal – heavy or not so heavy…and, of course we’ve got LOTS of silver!

We’ve got 12+ vendors, with such a wide variety of goodies, there will be “something” for everyone (I promise). The house should be packed – upstairs AND downstairs! Some of those items include:

Wonderful and unique vintage/antique finds (from furniture to linens) by our dear friend, Ginny Brandt (of Mansfield)
Primitive furniture, etc., and handcrafted birdhouses by R.T. & Mary Ann Mellor (of Mansfield – and owners of the home)
Vintage handcrafted “lovelies” for garden or home use – by our friends, Robin Utt & Carol Lucas (of Mansfield), AND Linda Grine & Sue Bruot (of Bryan)
Antique dolls/toys and primitives from our new friend, Janet Jerger (of Bryan)
And…maybe more!!
We’ve got some great volunteers to greet you, as well as help you with your purchases! (And, you know you’re gonna need help!!)
And, what would summer be without some good ol’ fashioned lemonade? We’ll have that too!!

I guess you can tell that we’ve got a few friends that love/collect “junk” like we do – you know what they say about “birds of a feather”…………. yep…they “junk” together!

And, for your further junking/antique pleasure, (after you’ve shopped our sale of course) there is a monthly fleamarket at the local county fairgrounds (not huge, but still a stop worth making – good selection, great vendors, and bargains to be found), as well as other antique stops in the area to pick from. And, since it’s the weekend – you’ll probably be able to spot a garage sale sign or three… You can definitely make a full day of it!

If fabulous gardens are your thing (I know they’re mine…), the beautiful grounds of Kingwood Center (located just minutes west of our sale on Park Avenue West), are in full bloom, and there’s a greenhouse too!

(An old pic…but I love it – it’s so US!!)

Hello there fellow fans of summertime…family and friend time, gardening, picnics, fleamarkets, garage sales, the warm sunshine, and SO much more!!! I don’t care if I hear that four letter “S” word for a long, long time!

I’ve been busy getting ready for our next show. Painting and creating, creating and painting – you understand!! (And, I’ve had a little help from my husband, Jim – who is working his way up the junk ladder…my Junk Hunk in training!).

And, speaking of our next show, Terri and I will be heading to Elyria, Ohio very early (one of those giant cup of coffee mornings…) this coming Saturday (June 11th) to set up for the CHIC UNIQUE HOME – SALE ON THE SQUARE. It will run from 10:00am – 5:00pm.

Our fellow junker and friend, Carrin Andress, is hosting the show, and we’re so excited to be a part of it. She has monthly occasional shows, and is expanding for the month of June to include vendors around the square. There will be about 15-20 artists/vendors – with a wide variety of vintage/antique treasures and handcrafted items – a wonderful way to spend a Saturday, don’t ya think??

In addition to the outside vendors, Carrin’s shop, Chic Unique Home will be packed with vintage treasures and beautifully painted furniture – she’s been busy as a bee – and I’m sure has gone “over the top” to make sure everything is just right. Her style is very sophisticated…with a little sanding around the edges too!

Terri and I will have our redesigned vintage jewelry and other repurposed/renewed treasures for sale, as well as some awesome vintage/antique finds that we’ve collected through a “few” excursions this summer (aka garage sales, fleamarkets, etc…). The “goods” have been piling up in my basement, and it’s time to bring them out into the sunlight and sell, sell, sell!! (And, I think my husband gets a little nervous when the piles get too high!!) Did I mention we were excited??? We’re hoping to see some familiar faces, and make some new friends too – we love that part of doing shows!

Here are few things I’ve been working on…

Signs…my new favorite thing! The four at the top of the picture are actually slats from the seat of an old chair – I “harvested” them from my garden! I just love the look of weathered wood – don’t you?? I painted a few more, but you’ll have to come to the show and see for yourself…

Chalkboards…a few different sizes – all have vintage frames..

And this one is my favorite (and completed with the help of my hubby!)…I think it was a pull-out thingie (?) from an old Hoosier cabinet or something…sorry, didn’t mean to be too technical – I just really don’t know what it’s called… It’s big though – lots of space to organize or just have fun!!

And it’s got a few bells and whistles…a wooden key holder, a “not-so-heavy” metal storage bin (very cool, right??), and a “JUNK” chalk tray (it is actually one of the slats from the garden chair – a perfect place to rest a few pieces of chalk – see, I didn’t waste any part of that old chair).

And, speaking of the garden chair…here’s a pic of what is left “standing”…

You just can’t keep a good chair down!

Signs of Spring...it's TIME for the Springfield Extravaganza!!!!

(((((NOTE: 5/19))))) - We were given new space assignments upon arrival.... spaces 585 and 586. Across from Mercantile Building...just in case you're shopping at Springfield this weekend. Please stop by!

Hi! There are so many signs of spring...everything is turning green - and who knew...leaves actually grow on trees! Lots of beautiful flowers are now braving the weather (and haven't drowned in our almost daily rain events - although, we've had two days in a row of sunshine...with just a few sprinkles). It's a wonderful, hopeful time of year! We've uncovered the pool, and gotten it ready for the season - the water is about 62 degrees right now...it's got a ways to go before I'm hopping in!

Last week I put my hummingbird feeders out (our local newspaper reported a sighting on April 27th...I'm still waiting...)

Anywho, spring has definitely sprung in central Ohio, and I'm so grateful for it all (even the dandelions...well, that is going a bit far, but you know what I mean).

And along with the flowers, garage sale signs are popping up all over the place - don't ya love it??? (It makes it really hard to drive to work on a Thursday morning, that's for sure!!) Time to "harvest" some goodies (aka junk) from garages, basements, yards, etc... But probably at the top of my list is the Springfield Extravaganza...and it's just about that TIME!!

Here's the important stuff:

The Springfield Extravaganza is being held from Friday, May 20th through Sunday, May 22nd. Here's the link with all the details... Springfield Antique Show & Fleamarket

Terri and I (along with our good friend, Ginny) will be set up in spaces 621 and 634... We'll be setting up on Thursday, and ready to roll early Friday morning (7:00 am for early bird shoppers)...

There are normally over 2000 vendors, and you can find anything your heart desires (and a little extra besides). You can find everything from garage sale bargains to fabulous fine antiques - and bunches of "in between"!!! I know it sounds too good to be true, but this is not one of those times when you might say "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"...because it IS true!

Terri and I have been getting things ready - furniture (painted in between raindrops), lots of "smalls" squirreled away over the winter (so glad to get stuff out of my basement), redesigned vintage "junk" jewelry (lovingly put together by Terri & I), and lots more. Here are some pics of what we're bringing...it'll be worth your time to stop by (early) for the best selection!

A sweet parlor table and a simply divine sideboard - don't you love the detail???

This little number is just loaded with vintage sweetness - and looks to be in wonderful condition!

These two have been in storage way too long, they're just speechless surrounded by such awesome "junk"!

One corner of the room...

(note the large cabinet/trunk below the hat forms - it has shelves/dividers inside - so, it can be used as an upright cabinet or a trunk - gotta love a multi-tasking piece of furniture!)

Two round matching throw rugs...we're not sure if they're old or new, but they sure are cute!

A lovely old homestead, I mean dollhouse, that at one time actually had an electric fireplace...

the thought of that is a little scary now...

Baskets and metal carriers...and what a fab old shabby pink metal chair;

the perfect accessory for an artist's desk... :)

And, we've got silver, enamel, tin...lots of not so heavy metal!

A very nice antique trundle bed with one old mattress with tan ticking - it'll make a great day bed for a porch or patio...or guest room, and look, an old wooden (and precious pink) scooter - I can see this going "fast"!

We've got a couple great old medicine cabinets, mirrors

(from some little tabletop-styles to a HUGE hall or mantle-style)

Scales, scales and more scales - they're gonna make an awesome display!

We plan to make this "watchamacallit" useful...a planter is our first thought...

Metal stools are one of my favorite things - this green one is hard to part with!

Alright - the tour of our storage space is over (there is more in our trailer, in my basement and in Terri's shed...) so hope to see you at the flea...

Oops, I almost forgot...is this planter wonderful or what??? (it's out on my deck for the moment)

(UPDATE: The planter is SOLD and will be delivered to its new home in Columbus on our way to Springfield...are we good friends or what??)
