Summer time, summer time, sum, sum, summertime…

Welcome to my blog – I’ve been away enjoying the summer (and it’s a hot one), taking a little vacation to Baltimore; preparing for our next show, which involves lots of treasure hunting, then making it all pretty - or giving it a new purpose – you know the drill – and don’t we just love it all???

BALTIMORE…and more…

I wanted to share a few pics from our trip to Baltimore.  Kristen and Tom, our beautiful daughter and our wonderful son-in-law, had the pleasure of our company for a few days this month , and they made sure we took advantage of every minute.

We went to a Baltimore Orioles game on Sunday, (and coincidentally they were playing our Cleveland Indians…Indians won…woo hoo – and we got to see Jim Thome - formerly of the Cleveland Indians…now an Oriole).  It was a HOT game (almost 100 degrees), but Tom made sure that we had the shadiest seats available (that’s our planner!!), and there was a breeze all afternoon – too much fun!

The next day we all piled into the car (saying good-bye to our grandpuppy, Jersey…she got to stay in the AC all day – smart pup), and hit the highway for the quick trip to Washington, DC – and proceeded on to our whirlwind tour…the Capitol, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, various memorials, the White House (and caught a glimpse of Michelle Obama’s kitchen garden), museums – dodging construction zones, and tons of tourists.  Tom had a map, and we were on it…until closing time at the museums.  Jim and I had never been to Washington before – it was amazing, and what a sense of pride for the many people who have sacrificed and worked so hard for our freedom – God bless America, and let us try not take for granted all that we have – it’s an easy thing to do, because so many of us have so much…

Of course, it’s impossible to see everything in a day, so we have a “to do” list for our next trip!  Thanks Tom (Mapman), and your beautiful assistant, Kristen – and, so happy you could keep up with the “old folks”! :)  (At the end day, Tom mapped out our route, and we had walked at least eight miles!)

On Tuesday, Tom and Kristen had to work, so Jim and I took off on their bikes, and cruised around the Inner Harbor, and other surrounding areas…for about 5 hours. It was a beautiful day (again…in the 90s), but we cruised (and did I mention that I’m in love with Kristen’s bike…it’s on my Christmas list) here and there, and everywhere.  We checked out the ships, Fells Point, Federal Hill, and a Goodwill Store (ha ha!!).  Baltimore is a beautiful city, and again…we’ve got a “to do” list for our next trip!

Of course there was fabulous food too!  And, our new favorite thing – gelati – frozen custard with Italian ice – oh my gosh – what a perfect thing to have after our trek around Baltimore…yummmmm!

On the 4th of July, we (sadly) said good-bye and headed back to Ohio – missing our Hewitts (including little “J”) – but, don’t worry, we’ll be back in October!!

SUSAN’S SHABBY NEST

My friend, Susan, has been hard at work getting her gardens in spectacular shape (despite our drought), and for the last couple weeks, has enlisted the help of her sweet mother, Ruth, to put on the finishing touches (which as of this week…are almost complete).  I’m not even going to say much about her yard and gardens (it may be a small yard, but it is just so special) . and I believe she has a gift, and I don’t even think she completely realizes it…but the pictures will tell the tale, and I know you'll agree!

THE SUMMER MARKET

Coming VERY soon (where did the time go???)!

The Summer Market is a unique outdoor festival and benefit held in Avon Lake, Ohio, right on the shore of Lake Erie. Thousands of guests visit the Market each year to shop for furniture, jewelry, art, vintage items, fresh produce, home decor, and a variety of other goods from 55+ vendors. Guests dine from three featured restaurants and listen to live music while watching the sun set or playing at the beach. It is a great event that should not be missed!

FYI - Listed in Flea Market Style magazine’s Summer 2012 issue as one of the ‘best vintage sales from coast to coast”!!  Congrats!!

We’ll be in space #56 (with Lake Erie right behind us)…hope to see you there!

AND……….Terri, Susan and I are in prep mode…big time – junk to be made, furniture to be painted…and so much more!  We’ll be packing it up Thursday (and praying it all fits!!!), and heading to the lake Friday morning – can’t wait!!

Here’s a peek at just a few of the things we’re taking to the show…because if you’ve every seen our booth…it’s always overflowing (right, Terri???)!!

A fabulous window cabinet, and a very unique cabinet we found in NW Ohio…a crafter’s cabinet (shelves and a drawer, and on the outside we put an old window frame to highlight the chalkboard front…a perfect spot for your “to do” list!!  A bit of old hardware was added for some character!  (and it’s on wheels…so stinkin’ cool).

Terri’s yard was a paint shop last Friday…here is a bit of what we finished.  The window paintings are Terri’s creations of course!

And, this sweet little mermaid dish…need I say more??

A wonderful old “radio cabinet” (with shelves inside)  – that Susan salvaged, painted and will be sure to sell this weekend!!  And, don’t you love the pitch fork with the sweet little birdhouse attached – a must have for a junk gardener!

Susan also painted/stenciled a cute little bench…with some of my favorite words!

My signs and more summertime “junk”!

And, of course, we’ve got plenty (always more than we can pack into our trailer) of handcrafted items and vintage finds for sale…to be gathered from Susan’s, Terri’s and my workspaces – and getting it all in one place to load is definitely a major production!

So, that’s my summertime (so far) in a nutshell…hope you’re enjoying yours!

God bless and happy junking!

Kathy

P.S.  (Because there’s always a P.S…)  Wanted to share ONE more pic.  The other day Terri and I met at our storage unit to put some furniture away for the show…and when I pulled up…this is what I saw…

This is where a true junker relaxes…in front of their storage unit…

too funny – just sayin’
